While Dr. Miller was out in the field with a battalion sweep another Doctor came in as Battalion Surgeon. He had recently arrived in Vietnam and had not yet developed his tan.

HM3 Ron Pittler had seen action with Mike Company prior to coming to BAS.

HM1 Chris West was had just come to the unit in July. He was on his 2nd or 3rd tour in Vietnam and had a Vietnamese wife and child in the Saigon area. He spent much of his time trying to get reassigned near his family.

HM2 Nick Longo Comshaw Artist Extrordinaire was from Pennsylvania. He had not seen any combat in Vietnam, but was in the army as an infantryman in Korea. He was a con artist and could get anything. Dr. Miller would send him out to trade his carvings for medical supplies.

The Arab and The Jew. HN Kenneth Madfes was from San Francisco. During the Arab-Isralai war in 1967 they had a great time making fun of the newscasts about the defeat of the Egyptian army.
