11^th Engineers Erecting a Portable Bridge

at the Hairpin on Highway 9

The problem: Highway 9 to Khe Sanh crosses a narrow gorge with steep sides on the Song Ruo Quan river. There had been ted a curved bridge with concrete supporting the road bed. When it was destroyed a Bailey bridge was constructed with a concrete support in the center. It appears that the center support was blown allowing only foot traffic. Eventually the structure came down.
