Patrols were a
daily occurrence. Again, I was either on patrol by day or ambush at night.
Each platoon was made up of 3 squads which would rotate activities. The
individual marine would go out every 3rd activity. There were only 2
corpsmen per platoon. This resulted in the individual corpsman participated
every other activity. As a result, the individual corpsman was in the field
more often than the individual marine. Every couple of days, when we
decided to change from patrol to ambush, the corpsman would go out with the
squad on patrol during the day, come back, and then at dusk go back out
with the squad taking the ambush.
